I am looking to buy some of the "velcor tails" that you had at the museaum but I can not find a store that sells them. Where did you purchase them?

    thanks for your help!

I was very surprised to find how out of date the web page is. When was the last time someone updated it? I went online looking for voting information and except for results from '97 and '98, found none. How disappointing in this web-age world.

This is a P.S. to the earlier post. I wonder if someone could advise the names of funeral homes in Needham as well as the newspaper that would have carried the obit of Herbert L. Moore's Oct. 1976 death. This would help me a lot with my search for his survivors. Thanks, again.

I have read recently that the historical society is preserving artifacts from the Needham Cinema. I am part of the NHS 1981 reunion commitee and want to know if you have any pitures circa 1978-1982 of downtown Needham and more specifically the cinema. We are converting some super 8 movie footage from the class of '81 into MPEG format and is availible if you would like a copy on CD.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this request,

Now that the tennis courts near the high school have been renewed, I'd like to recommend that the tennis nets and perhaps wind screens be taken down and stored for the winter season. Obviously it is great to have them available for those rare warm November and March days, but they really take an unnecessary beating within this period. The nets have been up all year for the last 4 or 5 years. I live across from the fields on Rosemary St and would be willing to take them down and store them if there is no other way of preserving them. What is the policy for this kind of maintenance? Thanks, Larry Poland.

I formerly had a business in Needham and I continue to get bills and notices requiring me to file forms. In January 2001 I sent a letter to Mr. James Weidenfeller asking that our company be removed from Needham's Assessment Rolls and that our address be changed to our Newton address. I recevied no response and subsequent mail has been sent to my old Needham address. I received another form on 6/11/01 and called to attempt to get someone to deal with this matter rersolved. No one seems to be able to help. This web site does not seem to list any information about the Town Manager and/or Board of Selectmen.

    Can someone please help?

I am frustrated and angry as the way the town seems to be able to send bills and notices to me, collect my money but not act.

What I remember most about growing up in Needham is that for a "dry" town that was full up upstanding citizens and students, Needham had more "closet" drunks and drug addict students than anyone could imagine. The town just pretended problems like that didn't exist.

    Hi-
I really love pansies, especially the ones
with the really big heads. And yesterday
I found such a pansy at a local green-
house. But I'm not sure as to how I should
plant them. Some time ago I read that
pansies love bloodmeal, double the rate
on the bag, because they love lots of
fertilizer. I really want my pansies to
bloom fully. What do you think?

    Polly Attridge,
We will be visiting Needham, Massachusetts in April. We plan to be there on the 19th of April. Several years ago you provided me with a picture of Mary Ellen Glancy who taught at the Harris school for many years (43). This year I am publishing the 3rd edition of our family history which includes that picture, along with the picture taken of Mary Ellen Glancy which hangs in the Needham Library Archives. Would I find more information on Mary Ellen Glancy at the historical society and museum? I was going to donate a copy of our family history to the library... Is that the best place to donate a copy or would the historical society?

Thank you for your assistance. I am looking forward to seeing the town where my Great Great Aunt Mary Ellen lived.

Elaine Bergman - Boston, MA 02111

Hello, My name is Elaine Bergman. I am a student in Boston University's Masters of Clinical Social Work Program.
I am currently taking a class in social welfare policy. We have a group assignment that is to involve individual students writing
social welfare policy proposals. My group is concerned with the issue of affordable housing. I would like to write a proposal for
the redevelopment of existing propery (such as the vacant nursing home across from glover hospital, to create Single Room Occupancy apartments with
support services for the elderly. I intend to write a proposal that would theoretically. be presented at a town meeting. Is there a way that could
get a copy of a housing development proposal from the past to see what kind of information is required? Also, I believe, if I understand it correctly, that
there was a proposal not long ago, to use this same nursing home structure to create five affordable housing units, but the proposal was rejected. Was this proposal made
within the town meeting? if so, is there a way a can learn more about it? If not, would someone in your office know where and to whom this proposal was made?

I would greatly appreciate any information or direction you can give me.

Thank you for your time and efforts on my behalf,
    Elaine Bergman

    Hello,

Census4all Inc. has just completed the indexing and digitization of
the 1910 Rhode Island Census. No other index exists for RI in 1910.
We have about 673643140f the population included in the index. Most other
census indexes on the Internet or in CDROMs have 10-30 overage.
Census4all has indexed all entries in the original census records that
we could read, including spouses, children, in-laws, boarders, etc.
for every county in Rhode Island.

Please go to the following website to try out a FREE SEARCH:

    http://www.census4all.com

Census4all is a new site. We are continually updating the website to
better serve our customers and would appreciate feedback on how we are
doing. We plan to continue indexing the rest of the New England
states first and then move down the eastern seaboard indexing those
states where no 1910 SOUNDEX exists. Would you please include a notice
at an appropriate place on the Rootsweb website. I have attached a
color flyer for your use. Please forward this message to other
genealogists on your mailing list. We hope you enjoy these wonderful

Greetings again from Sydney, I have sent a previous enquiry about your waste paint collection service at Needham Dump. Then I noticed that Nedham Online is not just the municipal website!so I don't know if the county organisers of the dump will even get my message. If anyone can facilitate this, thank you.

    Yours faithfully,

Hi there, I work for Waste Service NSW which provides waste disposal and recycling services to business and public. I see that your paint receival set-up is more advanced than ours and I hope you do not mind me imposing on you to answer a few questions. My main area of interest is how you bulk-up and dispose of the paint you receive. Can you send me any information about this?

    Yours faithfully,

I used to live in Needham when I was a young girl. I went to school there until we moved to Dedham when I was in the seventh grade. My brother and I always regretted the move as we loved living there. I have visited there recently and it basically looks the same. It's a great town!

Graduated in 1958, on to school in Boston and moved all over the place, have been in NC since '89 - any NHS grads here?

I am a Needham resident making a complaint and I am sorry to do this during the holiday season. The town hall of needham is putting up a 7.5' menorah. I have no problem with this, but if there is going to be just a menorah can you also put up a tree? I dont care if there is a menorah at every intersection, but if there is, there has got to be a tree. I understand this town is highly populated with Jewish people, but a tree will be needed as well. Thank you for listening, and a happy holiday season to everyone!

Your sites would do any town proud, for they are indeed out standing
My reason for contacting your sites are a little mercenary I must confess,I am trying to contact some ofyour citizens. The lady in question was a Bridget Whoriskey who came from a little area here in Ireland called killult which is between the villages of Gortahork and Fallcaragh in county Donegal, she went to USA around the 30s and married a man called Mills, from the letters she sent to my late father (who was her brother Denis and lived in Glasgow Scotland)we knew that they lived in needham and reared a family there.
I would dearly love to contact someone from that branch of the family

I would like to find out how to get a traffic sign posted near my house letting drivers know I have a hidden driveway. I live on Webster Street, near the intersection of Highland Ave., and once people get past that intersection, they speed on down Webster and I have almost been hit a number of times. I am very cautious getting out of my driveway onto to Webster (I even turn my car around on the grass so I don't have to back out) but I'm still almost hit by quite a few people. Yesterday was the scariest. I looked both ways and nothing was coming. As I pulled out I was almost hit by a speeding pickup that slammed on the brakes and honked his horn like it was my fault. I had my young son in the car at the time and we were both shaken. Where can I go to petition to have a sign put up that there is a hidden driveway do, hopefully, people will slow down. I don't want to be killed or my son. Please let me know how I can resolve this problem.
    Thank you for your time.

My maiden name is Needham and I was just "surfing"out of idle curiosity. I live now about 10 miles from Needham in England and not far from Dedham. It seems the original is much smaller than its successor! We are moving to Wiltshire soon (home to Stonehenge) but we shall miss Suffolk and its thatched cottages and Tudor houses. I do admire the way American people are so proud of their community. It is something we could learn from over here. I really enjoyed looking around your town!

I believe that you should make an individual leg of your site solely for Ridge Hill Farms/Baker Estate history and post alot of the old photos from the estate. There is only one and it doesn't reflect the true gifted imagination of William Emerson Baker. He was unique enough to dream of a brand new idea, and make it work. He had wild visions that allowed him to build a whimsical park, a place that is almost lost in peoples memories. It was a treasure for the locals and I feel it deserves to have its memory revived and saved. Thank You.

Communities and citizens nationwide remain frustrated by their inability to
halt the disturbing pattern of land development leapfrogging across the
national landscape creating an ecologically destructive, unsustainable and
aesthetically unappealing pattern of land use. The solution to this dilemma
will not be found in the promulgation of more state and federal laws, rules,
and regulations, but in the communities themselves and in the way they
    construct their Municipal Master Plans.

William Honachefsky's new book, entitled, "Ecologically Based Municipal Land
Use Planning", will revolutionize the way American communities plan their
land use. Drawing upon more than 30 years of experience, including the
investigation of thousands of cases of environmental abuse, Honachefsky
presents a powerful combination of strategies that:

    1. Help restore the Municipal Master Plan to its rightful place of
    dominance over zoning;

    2. Incorporate 30 years of scientific research and a host of new and unique
"ecological indicators" with which a community can finally assess the health
    of the natural resources that help sustain it;

    3. Apply GIS to problem solving;

    4. Make preservation of the community's "ecological infrastructure" the
paramount priority of the Municipal Master Plan.

This book is about the empowerment of regular citizens and the crafting of
Scientifically based local land use master plans that will withstand even
the most withering judicial scrutiny. No community in the United States
will, henceforth, ever be able to say that they did not have the tools to
stop land sprawl in its tracks. The question is, will they have the courage
to bring land use planning up to the standards needed for the 21st century.

As a former resident of Needham I enjoyed your site... Living in Orlando for the past 6 years I can really appreciate the upbringing I had in Needham... It's amazing how much of that "hometown" feeling is lacking here in FL... Well my Site is listed above, so if you're ever in Orlando and need a DJ... Look me up...!

I am planning a long-awaited trip to New England. One thing I hope to do is to come across some of my ancestors who lived there. I have a list beginning in 1743. This lists Priscilla Davenport (7/8/1783 - Oct., 1858) married Elyah (sp?) Newell (7/23/1778 - 12/13/1813) in Needham on 11/18/1802. Would you have any information about these people? I am just beginning to try to do research and don't know where to begin. Any bit of information you could give me would be so very much appreciated! I am especially interested in Priscilla as this family record goes back through the female line every generation except one. Thank you.

In reading about the Needham Historical Society, it explains that you have an extensive genealogical collection.

Since my Great Grandfather was born in Needham November 14, 1853, and his parents, Adam and Betsey (Morse) Beck were a farming family in that area, I would like to know if you have any documentation of those individuals. I would be interested in obtaining copies of information that you may have in your archives as I am attempting to build my own family history.

    Sincerely,
