Community Service Tip of the Day: If you have a service clear the snow from your driveway, make sure that they do not leave snow piles blocking the sidewalks or jutting out into the street. Blocked sidewalks force children on their way to school to walk in the street, a very dangerous situation. Similarly, snowpiles that jut out into the street cause drivers to veer unexpectedly, putting themselves and other motorists at risk. You, as the property owner, have the responsibility to keep your sidewalks clear and your snow off the street. You can be fined by the town for not doing so. Please have a conversation with your snow plow guy today! It will take them 30 extra seconds to keep the sidewalks and roadways clear.

Do not let your car sit idling for more than 30 seconds.It wastes gas, causes unnecessary wear and tear on the engine and contributes to global warming.

Do you really need to let your car sit idling while you visit the RTS? Do you really need to warm up your car for 10 minutes before you head off to work? Can you imagine how much gas is costing you? Do you know that if you leave your car idling outside Starbucks while you dash in for a soy decaf Latte Grande, and your car is stolen, your insurance company could blame you for negligence and refuse to pay for its replacement or repair?

Be smart. Turn it off. Enjoy the peace and quiet while you sit for five minutes outside school or whatever. Think of Al Gore.
