Newton Symphony Orchestra and The Charness Family Quintet

Newton's Charness Family Quintet {Deborah (flute/Mom), Michael (piano/Dad), Sarah (violin/15), Daniel (cello/13) and Jennifer (violin/10)} are performing with The Newton Symphony Orchestra (NSO), under the direction of Jeffrey Rink, for a benefit concert featuring pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Accolay, Popper and a world premier by 14 year old composer, Julia Scott Carey.

19th Annual Run of the Charles Canoe and Kayak Race

Sunday, April 29, 2001, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Starts Charles River at Great Plain Ave.

Professional and amateur canoe and kayak races that include international, national, and local entries, ages 12 and up. Over 1,500 participants. Race courses ($10,000 26-Mile Canoe Marathon, 24-Mile Canoe Relay, 9-Mile Kayak Relay, and 19-, 9- and 6- Mile races) wind along the Charles River through Dedham, Needham, Newton, Wellesley, and Waltham to the day-long Finish Line Festival for the whole family at MDC Herter Park, Soldiers Field Road, Allston.
