Isabel Pell - Yardsley, Connecticut
  • When my father, Samuel Weller, first conquered the mighty Blue Hills in his humble covered wagon, his weary eyes rested upon the sparsely settled farming community of Needham. according to family mythology, the blaze of splendour which burst upon his sight was blinding. After settling in Needham, he staked out some land and bartered with the natives for land, food and supplies. The years passed and it was not long before he was courting a saucy young lass named Elizabeth, daughter of the legendary and respected business man and landowner, Sherman Fineberg. After marrying, Dad traded in his plow, covered wagon and modest home for a elegant home, fine cigars and a more spacious home on South Street, much more suitable for a young and growing family. not long after I was born. The youth I spent in Needham were moments snatched from Paradise; rendered bewitching by music, beauty, elegance, fashion, etiquette, and above all, by absence of tradespeople, who are quite inconsistent with Paradise. it was a very pleasant society then.

I am interested in what the town records have to say about early negro blacksmiths who came to Needham, Mass. and worked their chosen craft as Free Men.I believe my family roots can be traced here. My family changed its name spelling to Needam. Please E-Mail me with any clues at: sho-nuff4@worldnet.att.net

For example city & state tax laws, establishing business/corporation in Mass. etc... I'd really appreciate any further infor you can provide. The greater Boston area is attractive to me and my company.

  • Hey Y'all-
My husband Steven and I moved from Needham in April of '95. We love it here in NC, but certainly miss many things about Needham. I hope all my old friends at ParentTalk are doing great. I am so thrilled to see it's still active.
Amy and Lee sure have done a fabulous job on this website, very exciting for me to get a slice of Needham every now and then. Take care! Holly

  • It was fun being back in Needham for an hour...I'm interested in hearing from anyone who knew/knows me or members of our family...[Sally, Eileen, Ted, or Kate]. We grew up on Bradford Street, attended St. Joseph's, Pollard, and NHS.

I graduated from Catholic Memorial in '77.

    Hope to hear from you!

Dick King - Dudley, MA
  • My mother has been a resident of Needham for the last 70 years.
She will be 90 in July and is going to have to give up driving.
This needless to say will be very difficult for her. Most of
her friends have past away and her only son, myself, live too
far to do weekly errands for her. We have been trying to
convince her to come live with us or to move nearby but she is
fiercely independent and isn't ready to consider a move. Right
now, transportation to doctors, pharmacies and for groceries
    are the biggest concern.
Would you be so kind to list what transportation is available
in Needham. Is there any transportation to and from grocery
stores or pharmacies. If so, is there a charge, are tips expected,
how much advance notice is required. Any information you can
provide would be greatly appreciated. My mother is in good
physical and mental health, she does use a cane and can manipulate
    stairs quite well.

  • So this is too cool. Nicely done site, and a good glimpse into the past (for me, at least).

Anyways, I'm Robb Scott, NHS Class of '73, '74, and I think they tried to drag me back for '75 but I was having none of it. I turned out OK anyways. I'm living by the ocean in Lynn, run a little music studio in my attic, and still play too-loud guitar on the weekends. If any of this rings a bell, by all means gimme a holler.
