The Needham Women's Club

The Needham Women's Club was begun in 1935 as the young women's division of the New Century Club. The N.W.C. is a member of the International general Federation of Women's Clubs, a service organization of 10,000,000 members strong in 40 countries. Here in Needham, we are 58 members strong.

We have been instrumental in initiating or supporting many town wide activities. We began, along with the Needham Fire Department, the Emergency Medical Data program that put emergency medical information in one place in every participant's home for easy access during a medical emergency. We organized the first town wide Hazardous Waste Collection Day in Needham. We bring Santa into Needham homes on Christmas Eve through our Santa Project and we make it possible for Needham children to tell Santa their wishes with our Breakfast with Santa.

The monies earned through our fund raising projects: Breakfast with Santa, May Faire, and the Needham Afghan allow us to support various community needs. We award two $1,000 scholarships to deserving Needham students each year and a $500 Educational Advancement Award for Outstanding Community Service to a woman who has been out of school 10 or more years, who is going back to school.

We provide support to the Traveling Meals Program, the Council on Aging, the Community Council and many other Needham based groups. We helped start a Bean Project in a small village in Ecuador and support AFS. We bring Christmas cheer to a Needham family and a shelter for women & their families through our Adopt a Family/Shelter project. Our club project for this year is Breast Cancer awareness. This is a joint venture with Deaconess Glover Hospital.

These are many but not all of the programs and services we provide. We are business owners, teachers, executives, homemakers, nurses and consultants and we all share a common goal.We are committed to advancing the opportunities that our town offers to its residents. Our membership is open to any interested Needham resident. If you have any questions, or would like further information, please visit their website at www.needhamwomensclub.org.
